PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of family.

2. identify types of family.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

chart showing father, mother and their children.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupils Activities – Displays a chart of a family made up of father, mother and their children for the pupils to identify and define as father, mother and their children.

 

MEANING OF A FAMILY

Family is made up of father, mother and their children.

 

 

A family is made of people who are related to one another by blood. This family is called extended family.

 

OTHER MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Displays another chart showing other members of the family such as uncle, aunt, niece grandparents, etc.

Teacher’s remark – There are other members of the family that are related to one another by blood.

  • The first chart showing father, mother and their children is called nuclear family while,
  • The chart showing father, mother and their children and other family’s members is called extended family.

 

TYPES OF FAMILY

There are two types of family.

1. Nuclear family

2. Extended family

 

ASSIGNMENT – Find out the different between nuclear and extended families.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to find out the meaning of the word family and through guided questions explains the types of family.

Pupil’s Activities – Find out from home the meaning of the word ‘Family’ and report back to class.

 

 

3. Leads pupils to identify types of family.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen and respond to questions in class.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
