PRE – LESSON ACTIVITIES – MEANING OF CONSONANT BLENDS

Consonant blends are two (2) or more consonant letters that keep their own sound when blended together.

Consonant blends are also known as letter Blends. Letter blends can appear at the beginning or ending of a word. For this lesson, the idea is initial and final consonant blends, that’s words that begin or end with consonant blends.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Take the children through initial and final consonant blends – s and l, s and k, l and d, n and d, n and k.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the sound and pronounce.

Teacher’s remark – Comment and note the blended letters on the board. Use real objects or chart showing letter blend words for illustration.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Introduces children to initial and final consonant blends such as

  • s and l, s and k.
  • l and d, n and d, n and k.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s sound and pronounce.

3. Guides children to read several examples of letter blend words.

4. Creates rhymes or songs on letter blends and words.
