By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. identify special characters in sentences.

2. state uses of each character.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

Sentences containing different computer characters.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Displays a chart showing sentences with special characters for the pupils to identify.

Leads them to identify each character by name as shown below –

Note – Creates and Guides the pupils to recognise and identify each special character by name at free period since there are many characters. 10 characters at time help the pupils to familiarize themselves with each of the character. 

 

LESSON 2 – USES OF SPECIAL CHARACTERS 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – As shown the sentence or mathematics statement.

1. It is used to create a strong password. For example, all the characters.

2. It is used for ending a sentence. For example, full stop.

3. It is used for separating a sentence.  For example, comma.

4. It used for separating list of items. For example, comma.

5. It used for currency indicators. For example, naira or dollar symbol.

6. It is used for further explanation or examples. For example, brackets.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to identify each of the special characters on the keyword.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the special character on the keyword.

3. Leads a discussion on the uses of special characters.

Pupil’s Activities – State the uses of special characters.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – function keys, space bar, enter key.
