INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Water

2. A bowl

3. Pieces of paper

4. Hand fan

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Air is a gas that provides us with oxygen.

EXISTENCE OF AIR

Air is everywhere.

We cannot see it or touch but it is all around us.

We breathe in air. We breathe out air.

Without air, no living things can survive.

Living things are prove that air exists.

The air we breathe in is called oxygen while the air we breathe out is called carbon dioxide.

LESSON 2 – CREATION OF AIR

Instructions –

1. Cut a paper into smaller pieces and guide the pupils on this instruction:

2. Blow the piece of paper or fan the pieces of paper.

3. What do you observe?

Pupil’s observation – The air blown away the pieces of paper.

Remark – When air is moving, it is called wind. Air can blow sand, dust, roof, etc. away.

IMPORTANCE OF AIR TO LIVING THINGS

1. It enables us to breath in and breath out.

2. It supports life and growth.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher guides the pupils to breathe in and breathe out.

4. Teacher asks the pupils, what do you breathe in and what do you breathe out?

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils recognize air as the substance we breathe in and breathe out.

5. Teacher using the pupils responses to introduce the lessons – existence of air and creation of air.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson introduction by breathing in and breathing out to demonstrate the existence of air.

6. Teacher uses pieces of paper and hand fan to guide the pupils to demonstrate the existence of air.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils demonstrate the existence of air by using hand fan to blow away pieces of paper.

7. Teacher guides the pupils on how air can be created.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils create air by using their mouth to create air (blowing), using hand fan and by putting on electric fan.

8. Teacher leads a class discussion on the importance of air.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils state the importance of air.

9. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board by using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson summary by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
