PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

identify foodstuff that belong to more than one group.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify foodstuff in the locality according to their functions.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Samples of foodstuff mentioned e.g. yam, eggs, meat, fruits, vegetable, etc.

2. Chart on foodstuffs that appear in various groups.-Proteins, Fats,
Carbohydrates, Minerals, Vitamins.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 2 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the source of different functions of food.

 

SOURCES OF FOOD

1. Body building foods

Source – Meat, fish, beans, soyabean, etc.

2. Energy giving foods

 

 

Source – Yam, garri, bread, potatoes, etc.

3. Protective foods

Source – Orange, banana, green vegetables, etc.

4. Maintenance foods

Source – Liver, kidney, crayfish, crab, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – FOODS THAT BELONG TO MORE THAN ONE GROUP

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Discuss briefly why the foods belong to more than one group and itemise some foods that belong to more than one group for the pupils to sort from the chart.

1. Eggs – Protein, Vitamins, etc.

2. Fruit – Fruits – Vitamins and Minerals

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to itemise source of different functions of food.

 

 

3. Discuss briefly why the foods belong to more than one group, that is contain protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals in certain.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the discussion.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
