PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. State what land is.

2. Mention the types of land in their areas.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify swampy land, flat land, dry land and rocky or stoney land.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Pictures of rocky, dry, swampy, hilly and flat lands.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Display charts showing rocky, dry, swampy, hilly and flat lands. Leads the pupils to describe the look of various local land types.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the lesson discussion.

Teacher’s remark – Land is the solid part of the earth not covered by water. There are different types of land as shown on the charts. Note all types of land identified by the pupils.

 

TYPES OF LAND

3. Dry land.

 

LESSON 2 – TYPES OF LAND

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Take the pupils to different places within the localities with rocky, dry, swampy, hilly and flat lands. At different location, ask the pupils – what type of land is this and give reasons for their answers.

 

ASSIGNMENT

Find out 5 uses of land from home.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the meaning of land.

3. Leads the pupils to describe the look of various local land types.

4. Asks pupils to mention the land types seen in their localities.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention the land types seen in their localities.

5. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
