By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of craft items.

2. give examples of craft item at home and in the school.

3. draw some craft items.

The pupils can identify and state different craft items at home and in the school.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of –

1. sample of some craft items.

2. pictures of craft item.

3. pencil, crayons, drawing books and ruler.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Craft is the making useful things by hands. When you make things with your hands, that things are known as craft.

Crafts are used for beautification and other purposes in our home, school and office. Some of the items such as chairs, tables, hangers, curtains, containers, etc. used in home, schools, offices and other places are made of Craft items.

We can use our hands to make different crafts such as

1. Hand fan

2. Crown

3. Beads

4. embroidery, etc.

 

MEANING OF CRAFT ITEMS 

Craft Items are items made with hand. Craft items are made by weaving, carving, or pottery. Most of the craft items are now economical and highly valuable in this modern day.

 

MEANING OF DRAWING OF CRAFT ITEMS

Drawing of craft items are visual art on paper using drawing materials and tools. It is also known as drawing and painting crafts.

 

LESSON 2 – DRAWING OF DIFFERENT CRAFT ITEMS

Examples of craft items at home and in the classroom –

1. Beads

2. Local mats

3. Local clay pots

4. Leather products

5. Batik tie and dye

6. Calabash craft

7. Basket weaving

8. Bag weaving

9. Pottery

10. Woven cloths – Aṣọ-òkè, Akwete Cloth, Saki cloth and Parmala cloth, etc.

 

DRAWING OF CRAFT ITEMS

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Teacher provides necessary drawing materials and tools, and asks the pupils to draw any of the displayed craft items.

 

LESSON 3 – DRAWING OF CRAFT ITEMS

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays sample of craft items at home and in the school and as well as chart showing them.

4. Teacher allows the people to identify, examine and describe them.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify craft items at home and in the school.

5. Teachers uses the craft items and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils appreciate the ideas of real craft items and their drawings.

6. Teacher shows illustrations of craft items and leads a class discussion on the meaning and drawing of craft items.

Pupil’s Activities – The pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of lessons.

7. Teacher leads and guides the pupils as groups to draw craft items.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils draw craft items.and apply appropriate colour to their drawings.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson summary by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructs.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
