PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. explain the meaning of gymnastic activities.
2. differentiate between floor and apparatus activities.
3. state the basic floor and apparatus activities.
4. perform the basic floor and apparatus activities.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
Some of the pupils can demonstrate or perform some of the basic movements in gymnastics (floor and apparatus activities).
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Charts
2. Video
3. Mats
4. Wide open space
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Gymnastics are the physical fitness or activities that is used show and develope strength, flexibility, agility, balance and control.
Gymnastics are often done with or without any equipments.
The gymnastic activities performed with equipments is known as apparatus activities.
While the activities performed without is known as floor activities.
TYPES OF GYMNASTIC ACTIVITIES
There are two (2) types of gymnastic activities,
1. Floor activities
2. Apparatus activities
FLOOR ACTIVITIES
Floor activities are gymnastic activities performed on the floor, mat, rug, carpet or foam.
The activities are known as stunts, tumbling and balanced activities performed without any apparatus.
BASIC MOVEMENTS IN GYMNASTIC FLOOR ACTIVITIES
The basic floor activities are as follows:
1. FORWARD ROLL
Forward roll is a floor activities performed by tucking your head down and rolls their body in a forward circle on the floor.
2. BACKWARD ROLL
The backward roll is similar to the forward roll, but in reverse.
3. CARTWHEEL
A cartwheel is a sideways rotary movement of the body.
4. ARAB SPRING

LESSON 2 – APPARATUS ACTIVITIES
Apparatus activities are gymnastic activities performed with a piece of equipment such as skipping rope, vault, uneven bars, parallel and horizontal bar, etc.
BASIC APPARATUS ACTIVITIES
1. Swinging with one or two ropes
2. Skipping
3. Vaulting
Balancing on the parallel bars
Climbing
LESSON 3 – FLOOR AND APPARATUS ACTIVITIES (PRACTICE)
Teacher organizes simple and safe floor activities like walking, running, sit up, jumping, hopping, etc.
REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teacher displays chart showing some of the gymnastic activities – floor activities.
3. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs dispensing on the size of the class.
4. Teacher ask the groups or pair to identify and describe each of the activity.
Pupil’s Activities – As a group or pair, identify and describe the contents of the chat.
5. Teacher uses the chart and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson.
Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.
6. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning of floor activities with appropriate examples of floor activities.
Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of floor activities with appropriate examples.
7. Teacher demonstrates the basic floor activities.
Pupil’s Activities – Watch the teacher while he/she demonstrates the basic floor activities.
8. Teacher organizes simple floor activities with appropriate supervision.
Pupil’s Activities – Perform the recommended floor activities by the teacher.
9. Teacher uses the floor activities to introduce the apparatus activities.
10. Teacher leads a discuss on the meaning of apparatus activities using skipping rope.
11. Teacher uses chart showing apparatus activities to state the basic apparatus activities.
Pupil’s Activities – Explains the meaning of the apparatus activities with appropriate examples.
12. Teacher lets pupils perform apparatus activities using any available equipments.
Pupil’s Activities – Perform basic apparatus activities with the available equipments.
13. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate activity in the lesson summary and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
LESSON EVALUATION
Teacher asks pupils to:
1. explain the meaning of gymnastic activities.
2. differentiate between floor and apparatus activities.
3. state 5 basic floor activities.
4. demonstrate basic floor activities mentioned in question 4.
5. perform 5 basic apparatus activities.
