SMASE – ASEI PDSI METHOD

THIRD TERM

WEEK 10

PRIMARY 5

TOPIC: BASIC ELECTRICITY

LEARNING AREA

Lesson One – Conductors and Non – conductors

Lesson Two – Sources of Electricity

Lesson Three – Components of a circuit

Lesson Four – Uses of Electricity

TIME – 40 Minutes each.

LEARNING OUTCOME

By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:

1. explain how electricity is produced (generated) and used.

2. explain how electricity travels (conducted) from one point to another

3. group materials into conductors (metals) and nonconductors (wood, glass, plastic)

5. make a simple electric circuit connection.

6. uses of electricity.

RATIONALE

Electricity is very useful at home, offices, in school, etc. Most of our home appliances depend on electricity. For example, if there is no electricity, the following items will not work – television set, water heater, etc. The concept of electricity will enable pupils to understand and appreciate the importance of electricity in our daily life.

LEARNING MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Wool, fur or silk. Hard rubber rod or comb, Glass rod, Dry cell (1.5v), Bar magnets, Nails, pieces of paper, ropes, threads. Light bulbs, Connecting wires, Circuit board, Lamp holders, Switch key, Pins. Bar magnets, Iron fillings, Paper clips, Coins, Rubber bands

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

If there is no electricity, the following items will not work – television set, water heater, etc. The pupils understand this fact very. Without power by PHCN, no light or any home appliances will work.
