PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. describe the sun.

2. state the uses of the sun to people.

3. state the uses of the sun to plants.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify the sun and its uses.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Four cans filled with soil, cupboard or box.

2. Four green tomato seedlings, water.

3. Charts, poster showing the sun and activities done under it e.g. drying of clothes, plants growing tall and green, people walking in day light.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Charts, poster showing the sun and activities done under it e.g. drying of clothes, plants growing tall and green, people walking in day light.

Ask the pupils to examine and discuss the activities done under the sun.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the class activities and discussion.

Teacher’s remark – The activities on the charts tell us about the uses of the sun. Support the pupils in their discussion and write the uses of the sun on the board.

 

USES OF THE SUN TO PEOPLE AND PLANTS 

1. It provides daylight.

 

 

2. It used dries things like clothes, foods, etc.

3. It makes plant grow well.

4. It keeps our body warm and of the animals.

 

LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION ON THE EFFECTS OF THE SUN ON PLANTS – TOMATOES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities as stated in lesson presentation 3.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to state the uses of the sun to people and plants.

Pupil’s Activities – State the uses of the sun to people and plants.

3. Keeps two cans containing green tomato seedlings in a closed box or cupboard and two others exposed to the sun.

Pupil’s Activities –

  • Observe and describe the color of the tomato leaves after three days.
  • Tell the difference between the colors of tomato plant kept in cupboard and exposed to the sun.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Ask pupils to:

1. State three uses of the sun.
