PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. state uses of seam.

2. produce an album showing stages of making seams.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can sew simple plain and open seam, run and fell seam and french seam.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Different garments showing different seams.

2. Charts showing stages of seam making.

3. Albums showing samples of stages of seam making.

4. Brown paper, coloured threads, scissors, needles, pins, etc.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING 

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Seam is a line where pieces of fabric and other materials are sewn together in a. garment. A garment is an item of clothing.

For example, sewing shoulders, sides, sleeves, waistline, collar, etc. together.

 

 

USE OF SEAM 

PLAIN AND OPEN SEAM 

1. It is good for joining materials which are meant to show as little as possible e.g. joining underarm, sleeve, seam on clothing of all kinds.

 

RUN AND FELL SEAM 

2. It is good for clothing needling hand wear and frequent washing, e.g. shirt, jeans, night wear, overall and short.

3. It is used for workwear and outerwear.

 

FRENCH SEAM 

4. It is good for underwear and fine blouses, children wear.

5. It is good for dresses, blouses and overalls requiring frequent washing.

 

 

LESSON 2 – PRODUCE NEEDLE WORK BAG FOR DISPLAY 

Guides pupils to produce needle hand bag.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Exhibits different types of seam.

Pupil’s Activities – Examine and describe the seams exhibited by the teacher.

3. Uses types of seam and pupils responses to discuss the uses of seams.

4. Guides pupils make a bag.

Pupil’s Activities – Make a bag.

5. Summarizes the lesson lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.
