PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. identify and name some common plants in the school compound.

2. trace the leaves of some of the plants on plastercine or clay, where available.

3. prepare a press of common plants.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Take the pupils for a walk within and around the school, observe, identify, name and collect common plants.

Also, display chart of plants not available within or around the school but seen in other areas for identification.

Pupil’s Activities – Cassava plants, maize plants, green grass, flowers, etc.

Teacher’s remark – Plants grown almost everywhere. In the grounds, water, rocky places. Write the name of plants identified on board and press plants collected on cardboard.

COMMON PLANTS IN THE SCHOOL COMPOUND

A plant is a living thing that grows in the ground and has a stem, leaves and roots.

 

 

Common plants in the locality and school are as follows:

1. Cassava

2. Maize

3. Green grass

4. Flower

5. Rice

6. Mango

7. Vegetable, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – PRESS COMMON PLANTS 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide the pupils to press common plants collected on cardboards as a group or drawing sheet as an individual.

 

Note – Press common plants means making a plant album. 

 

REVISION AND WEEK LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Identifies suitable place in the surrounding for pupils to visit.

3. Guides pupils to observe and collect common plants.

4. Guides pupils to prepare a plant for preservation.

 

 

5. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
