TOPIC – COMPOSITION INVOLVING EXPRESSION OF PERSONAL OPINION ON SIMPLE TOPICS 

 

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. Discuss personal opinion on simple topics.

2. Write an essay involving personal opinion on any given topic by debate.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Pre – recorded debates on cassettes.

Picture/charts showing the various places of interest in both city and in the village.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

FOCUS LESSON

INTRODUCTION 

A composition is a short piece of writing to form a whole essay.

For example,

 

1. I like living in a city better than in a village.

2. Farmer is better than the teacher.

3. Books are better than films.

4. Giving youths mobile phones at an early age is harmful.

5. My family, school, etc.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing a doctor, teacher, lawyer, etc.

4. Teacher asks pupils as group or pair to identify and describe one profession.

Pupil’s Activities – Describe any one of the profession on the chart.

5. Teacher uses the chart and pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson and discuss the meaning of composition.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

 

6. Teacher gives pupils guidelines on writing composition.

7. Teacher ask pupils to express their personal opinion in writing living in the city or village.

Pupil’s Activities – Use the guidelines to express their opinions on living in the city or village.

8. Teacher summarizes lesson on the board using appropriate lessons evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
