PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. recognise different print resources.

2. interpret information from diagrams, charts and graph.

3. recognise parts of a book- title, author and illustration, and

4. recognise that a group of sentences make up a paragraph and paragraphs make up a  story.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can differentiate between print materials and handwriting.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION ACTIVITIES – BASIC CONCEPTS OF PRINT

Concepts of print refers to the awareness of how print and books work. 

Teacher’s Activities – Display print and handwriting materials for the pupils to identify and differentiate.

Pupil’s Activities – This is printed materials from computer and this is written by hand.

Teacher’s Remark – Correct. Print materials and handwriting materials are not the same. Print materials include letters, numbers and diagrams that are printed. Explain and guide pupils to –

 

1. picture reading, identification of signs e.g road signs.

 

 

Identify the objects below:

 

2. interpretation of diagrams, charts and graphs to give information.

Find the numbers of each objects below:

  • Pencils –
  • Sharpeners –
  • Rulers –
  • Cleaners –
  • Biro –

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the basic concepts of print.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanations on concepts of print.

3. Guides pupils to recognise signs, diagrams, charts and graphs.

4. Guides pupils to interpret the signs, charts and diagrams.

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
