TOPIC: DEBATE – DISCUSSION ON SIMPLE AND FAMILIAR TOPIC 

DEBATE TOPIC – The Father is More Important than the Mother in a Family (Propose or Oppose) 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. act as moderators and

2. speak for the motion or against it.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. A debate topic written on the board.

2. Record TV or radio debate.

3. A copy of a written sample debate.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

DEBATES – DISCUSSIONS ON SIMPLE AND FAMILIAR TOPICS (propose or oppose)

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1.bTo introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Tells the pupils that a debate is an organized way of arguing your case or points of view.

3. Introduces the register of debate to pupils i.e. words, structure, terms, mannerisms etc.

4. Guides pupils to prepare a programme of events.

Pupil’s Activities – Act as moderators while some pupils are reading the prepared speech.

5. Organises a debate , with a chairman, panel of judges, proposers, opposers of the motion, listeners.

Pupil’s Activities – As many pupils as possible should also act as moderators as well as speakers.

6. Guides pupils to participate in a debate.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to:

1. dramatize a role in debate.

2. take a stand in an argument (for or against) and

3. speak on a given topic.
