PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain types of government.

2. differentiate between the various types of government.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOURS

The pupils can differentiate between the president and the King.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing major types of government.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

A government is the system or group of people governing an organized community, often a state.

 

 

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRADITIONAL AND CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT

1. Traditional government is a government that is ruled by Kings (or Queens), privileged or powerful.  WHILE 

Constitutional government is a government that is ruled by the rules of laws.

2. The kings, queens, highly privileged and powerful are good examples of traditional government. WHILE

The president and prime minister are good examples of constitutional government.

3. Monarch and oligarchy are major types of traditional government. WHILE

Presidential and parliamentary government are major types of constitutional government.

4. People become a king in traditional government through successor or hair to the throne. WHILE

While people become president  in constitutional government through the majority votes.

 

 

LESSON 2 – DIFFERENT BETWEEN MONARCH AND OLIGARCHY 

1. MONARCHY

Monarch is a system of government ruled by the King or Queen, hereditary or succession. No end to tenure. This is also known as government of Kings and Queens.

2. OLIGARCHY

Oligarchy is a system of government by only few people who are privileged or powerful.

 

 

DIFFERENT BETWEEN PRESIDENTIAL AND PARLIAMENTARY GOVERNMENT 

3. PARLIAMENTARY

Parliamentary is a system of government ruled by the prime minister. The head of state is different from the head of government in parliamentary system of government.

4. PRESIDENTIAL 

Presidential is a system of government ruled by the president. The head of state is the head of head government in presidential system of government.

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND LESSON EVALUATION 

As stated in the performance objectives or lesson evaluation.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based what he/she has taught the pupils or the lesson learnt by them.

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depends on the size of class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing king and presidential government.

4. Teacher asks the pupils as a group or individually to discuss the process of becoming a king or a president.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils discuss the process of becoming a king or a president.

5. Teacher uses the chart and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the difference between various types of government,

I. Traditional and Constitutional government,

II. Monarch and Oligarchy government, and

III. Presidential and Parliamentary government.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on the different between traditional and constitutional government, monarch and oligarchy government, presidential and parliamentary government.

6. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
