PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of drawing.

2. identify drawing instruments

3. state the names and use(s) of each drawing instrument.

4. draw some objects using some of the drawing instruments

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of drawing instruments – T – square, set square, drawing board, compasses, dividers, masking type, ruler and protractor etc.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION 

Copy as I write or draw as I draw. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.

 

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION 

Teacher’s activities – Ask the pupils, draw a chair and a table.

Pupil’s activities – Drawing a chair and a table.

Teacher’s remark – Check the pupils drawing and give a great cheer for good drawing.

 

DRAWING INSTRUMENTS 

Teacher’s Activities – Ask the pupils, mention different instruments used in drawing.

Pupil’s Activities – pencil, ruler, etc.

Teacher’s remark – Note all the instruments mentioned by the pupils on the board for writing.

INSTRUMENTS USED FOR DRAWING 

There are different materials used for drawing, some of them are –

1. Ruler

2. Eraser

3. Sharpener

4. Pencil

 

 

5. Drawing paper

6. Colour pens

7. Drawing board

8. Compass

9. Protractor

10. Set square, etc.

 

MEANING OF DRAWING AND DRAWING INSTRUMENTS 

Teacher’s Activities – Display chart showing some good life and still life drawings for the pupils to identify and define what drawing and drawings instruments are.

Pupil’s Activities – Based on the drawings, define drawing in.

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for quick response and active participation. Based on the points mentioned by the pupils, define drawing and drawing instruments.

MEANING OF DRAWING 

Drawing is a way of representing an object on paper using pencil and other drawing instruments.

 

MEANING OF DRAWING INSTRUMENTS 

Drawing Instruments are instruments used in/for drawing.

 

LESSON TWO – USES OF DRAWING INSTRUMENTS 

Teacher’s Activities – Display sample or chart showing drawing instruments for the pupils to identify and state the uses of some of the common instruments.

Pupil’s response – State the uses of common drawing instruments.

Teacher’s remark – Listen to the pupils, support and give a great cheer for state the uses of common drawing instruments while you demonstrate the uses of other drawing instruments.

USES OF DRAWING INSTRUMENTS 

1. Compass

  • It is used for drawing a circle.
  • It is used for constructing angles.

 

2. Divider

  • It is used for placing points on the drawing paper.

 

3. Set Squares

  • It is used for drawing for vertical and horizontal lines turned in different.

 

4. Ruler

  • It is used for measuring distance(s) between two or more points.

 

5. Protractor

 

 

  • It is used for measuring angles.
  • It is used for drawing a circle or semi circle.

 

6. T – square

  • It is used for drawing horizontal and vertical lines.

 

7. Cleaner or eraser

  • It used for cleaning.

 

LESSON THREE – DRAWING ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guide the pupils to –

  • draw parallel and perpendicular lines and construct all the major angels with compass.
  • how to place drawing sheet on the drawing board.
  • how to use other drawing instruments.

 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to define drawing and drawing instruments.

Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between drawing and drawing instruments.

3. Demonstrates the use of each instrument.

4. Demonstrates how to place drawing sheet on the drawing board.

Pupil’s Activities – Watch and practice the use of the various instruments.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

1. Differentiate between drawing and drawing instruments.

2. State 5 common drawing instruments.

3. Mention the uses of each drawing instrument mentioned question 2.

 

 

4. draw a circle using a compass and protractor.

5. draw a horizontal and vertical lines of 10 cm each.

6. draw vertical lines.

7. construct angles 45º and 60º using a protractor.
