CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSONS 1 – INTRODUCTION

A weaving is the process of making a beautiful item such as clothes, shoes, hats, curtains, baskets, seat covers, bed sheets, denim, towels, drapes, braided hose cable, rugs and many other useful and decorative items.

 

MEANING OF WEAVING ITEMS

Weaving items are items made by weaving. To make any weaving items, we need warp, loom, weft, weft, shuttles, tapestry needle and scissors.

 

LESSON 2 – TYPES OF WEAVING 

Weaving is done on a loom. There are two types of loom namely – vertical and horizontal weaving. Both types of loom operate on the same principle.

1. Vertical Weaving 

Vertical loom is used by women weavers. This is the type of weaving loom that is vertical and upright. It can be easily moved from one location to another.

2. Horizontal weaving

Horizontal loom is used by men weavers for traditional fabric weaving.

 

LESSON 3 – DRINKING OR USING PAPER STRIPS TO WEAVE A MAT 

STEPS

1. Cut strips of cardboard with the same or different length by width.

2. Use different colors for to beautify the final weaving.

3. Lay one of the strips of paper horizontally.

4. Beginning with the second strip, interlace the vertical strips of paper with the remaining strips of paper horizontally.

5. Ensure that they are neatly and closely knitted together.

6. Tape all the edges of the weave together.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart or items made from traditional weaving and guides the pupils to identify and describe the uses.

4. Teacher uses the chart/items and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning and types of weaving.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

5. Teacher shows illustrations of weaved items and groups the pupils to weave or draw different weaved items.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils carefully examine the weaved items, weave or draw different weaved items.

6. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write or draw as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
