PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. give the scriptural meaning of “Bread of Life”.

2. explain what Jesus meant by referring to Himself as the “Bread of Life “.

3. List the benefits of people who partake in the “Bread of Life”.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Sample of a real Bread.

2. Picture showing a preacher preaching the word of God.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Display bread and Bible for the pupils to identify and differentiate the purpose of each. Then, tell the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people with two loaves of bread and five fish.

 

Reading Text/Memory Verse – John 6:35

Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

 

 

MEANING OF THE “BREAD OF LIFE” 

The bread of life is not physical bread, but the spiritual food which is the words of God. The words God is Jesus.

 

ILLUSTRATE WHY WE EAT WITH PHYSICAL BREAD 

1. For strength

2. For nourishment

3. For physical growth and development of different parts of the body.

4. To be alive, etc.

 

USING THE REASONS WHY WE EAT, EXPLAIN JESUS AS THE BREAD OF LIFE 

Reading Text – John 6:35

51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

This means, Jesus is the bread of life. The man who comes to Jesus will never be hungry and the man who believes in Jesus will never again be hungry and thirsty. We need the physical bread to stay alive and heathy but we the Bread of Life – the Words of God to keep us from sin.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the term Bread of Life.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanation.

 

 

3. Summarises Jesus teaching of himself as the Bread of Life.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in discussing Jesus as the Bread of Life.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Pupils to:

1. explain the meaning of the term “Bread of Life”.

2. point out two differences between the bread of life and the physical bread.
