TOPIC: LABOUR AND TRADE UNION 

 

Labour means workers. Workers are the teachers, gateman, food vendors in the schools. Everybody that works in the schools, banks, hospitals, markets, etc. are labour. Labour means work force. That is, the available work force in a country.

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to:

  1. explain the concept of labour and trade unions;
  2. different jobs people do;
  3. give examples of labour force in the school.

  • The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing different protest of trade unions.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

 

INTRODUCTION

Labour means workers. Workers are the teachers, gateman, food vendors in the schools. Everybody that works in the schools, banks, hospitals, markets, etc. are labour. Labour means work force. That is, the available work force in a country.

 

LABOUR

Labour is both physical and mental efforts employed to get work done in the society. For examples, the teachers, lawyers, doctors, cleaners, bricklayers, etc.

 

DIFFERENT JOBS PEOPLE DO IN OUR LOCALITY 

  1. Teacher
  2. Carpentry
  3. Doctor
  4. Nursing
  5. Trading
  6. Driving
  7. Mechanics
  8. Civil service

 

TRADE UNION 

A trade union is an organization of workers coming together to achieve common goals.

 

TRADE UNION IN NIGERIAN 

  1. Nigerian Labour Congress
  2. Teacher’s union – Nigerian Union of Teachers
  3. Lawyers – Nigerian Bar Association
  4. Medical – Nigerian Medical Association
  5. Journalists – Nigerian Union of Journalists

 

FUNCTIONS OF TRADE UNION 

  1. protecting the integrity of its trade,
  2. Improving safety standards,
  3. Attaining better wages and benefits,
  4. Improving standard of living,
  5. Improving the working conditions of service.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Leads the pupils in discussion about their parents jobs;
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Discuss with peers different jobs in their locality.
  4. Discusses the meaning of trade union;
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Mention the organization that different labour belong to.
  6. Note.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
