TOPIC – DESIGNING PATTERNS OF BASIC SHAPES

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

  1. design simple patterns using basic shapes.
  2. draw basic shapes e.g. circles.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Diagrams of Basic shapes, Pencils, Colour Pencils, Eraser, Drawing books.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

INTRODUCTION

MEANING OF PATTERN

A pattern is made by repeating shapes, lines and colours to make a design.

 

MAKING PATTERNS USING BASIC SHAPES 

Making patterns with the circle.

Look at the picture below.

The pattern is made with circles.

The circles are in different sizes.

How many circles are they? Count them.

 

Making patterns with the square.

Look at the picture below.

The pattern is made with squares.

The circles are in different sizes.

How many squares are they?

Count them.

 

 

DRAW BASIC SHAPES – CIRCLES OR SQUARES 

Provide material for making a accurate circle or square.

 

 

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Lists and explains basic shapes.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Listen and draw different basic shapes.
  4. Explains what patterns are.
  5. Demonstrates how to make patterns.
  6. Pupil’s Activities – Make simple patterns using basic shapes.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
