PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. identify some of the local games.

2. demonstrate the skills of some local games.

3. perform some local game.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and describe some of the local games.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of playground, balls, etc.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

MEANING OF LOCAL GAMES

Local games are games that you can play individually or in groups. These games helps kids learn to cooperate with another.

 

EXAMPLES OF LOCAL GAMES 

Examples of local games are –

1. Running in a circle/Fire on the mountain

2. Rats and rabbits

3. Pair games

4. Cat and rabbits

5. Do as I do

6. Clap over your head

7. Who is in the garden, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – LOCAL GAMES PRACTICE 

ACTIVITY 1 – FOCUS GAME – RUNNING IN A CIRCLE OR FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN 

This is a circle game where pupils sit in a circle.

The pupils decide who to starts the game.   

Let assume the one who starts the game is a boy.

The boy runs round the pupils and taps another (assume a girl).

 

All start singing – Fire on the mountain (Run, Run, Run) or the Yoruba’s song, Idi Ore mi Lemi o Fisi (Idi Ore mi Jalanjolo).

 

The girl gets up and chase the boy who just tapped her before he gets into her position.

If she catches him, the boy continues but if she doesn’t, she’ll will continue and so on.

ACTIVITY 2 – WHO IS IN THE GARDEN

Leader: Who is in the garden?

Group: That’s a little small girl (boy).

Leader: Can I come and see her (him)?

Group: No, no, no!

Leader: Now you follow me!

 

PROCEDURE

Everyone stands in a circle holding hands.

The leader walks around outside the circle and sings, “Who is in the garden?”

The group standing in the circle replies, “That’s a little small girl/boy.”

The leader walks around outside the circle and says, “Can I come and see her?” The group replies, “No, no, no!”

Then the leader says, “Now you follow me” and taps someone on the back. That person should follow the leader outside the circle.

The leader repeats, “Who is in the garden?”

The group says, “That’s a little small girl.”

The leader says, “Can I come and see her?”

The group says, “No, no, no!”

The leader says, “Now you follow me” and taps another person on the back. They keep doing this until there are only two left in the circle.

Finally, the one left who wasn’t tapped has to chase and catch the other people. Then they start another round of the game. The person who had to chase everyone is the leader in the new round.

 

ACTIVITY 3 – KICKING BALL

Teacher organizes the pupils in groups and guides them to kick a message.

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in the performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous QQq a. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher displays a chart showing a familiar or common game played in the school.

3. Teacher lets the pupils examine, identify and describe how the game is played.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils describe and demonstrate how to play the local game.

4. Teacher uses the chart and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on how to play the game.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on how to play the game.

5. Teacher explains and demonstrates the local games to the pupils.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils observe the teacher’s demonstration and getting ready for the games.

6. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups and take them to the school field to perform or demonstrate some of the local games. Note – Asks for the support and assistance from other staff. 

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the outdoor games.

7. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson summary by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
