PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to identify and use simple present, past and present tense in sentences.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can make simple sentences.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing event in the past, present and future tense.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

MAKING SENTENCES WITH TENSE

There are only three basic tenses in the English language: the past, the present and the future:

Past tense is anything that happened yesterday, last week, last month and last year.

Present tense is anything that happens today or right now.

Future tense is anything that will happen tomorrow.

 

Examples of the past, present and future tense in reading and writing.

I jumped.   I jump.   I will jump.

 

 

You jumped.   We jump.   They will jump.

 

I jumped over the bar.

I jump over the bar.

I will jump over the bar.

 

You jumped over the bar.

We jump over the bar.

They will jump over the bar.

 

He played football

He is playing football

He will play football

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Guides pupils to use past, present and future tense of common verbs in sentences.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Produce their own sentences using the past, present and future tense of common verbs in sentences.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
