PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. state the rules of Judo.

2. mention the basic skills and techniques in Judo.

3. application of Judo during training.

4. demonstrate the skills and techniques involved in judo.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Judo is a Universal Olympic sports and a method of physical, intellectual and moral education. Martial art are the sports that originated in Japan, Korea, and China as forms of self defence or attack.

They are fighting skills used for self defence or attack without any weapons.

 

RULES OF JUDO 

Judo’s rules is applicable to any situation in which Judo is practiced and in the competition.

The rules of Judo game are as follows:

1. Contestants must bow before stepping onto the mat.

2. Contestants must bow to each other before and after practice or competition.

3. Inappropriate behaviour, such as foul language and bodily gestures, is not tolerated.

4. Intentionally injuring an opponent is not allowed.

5. Punching, kicking, and other strikes are not allowed.

6. It is not permitted to touch an opponent’s face.

7. Head dives or butts are not permitted.

8. There should be no wearing of any hard object or metal during competition.

9. There should be constant bows to each other.

10. Award of ippon decides the winner and ends the match.

11. A shido is awarded to punish an offender.

LESSON 2 – BASIC SKILLS AND PRACTICE OF JUDO 

The basic skills of Judo are as follows:

1. The stance

2. The grip

3. Movement

4. Falling

5. Throwing

6. Holding

8. Choking

9. Arm lock

 

 

LESSON 3 – TRAINING AND PRACTICES OF JUDO 

Teacher organize a training and practical session of Judo rules, skills and techniques.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher plays a short video of Judo training session or competition.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the short video

4. Teacher uses the video to introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

5. Teacher chart showing the rules of Judo and asks pupils as a group or pair to analyze how the rules are applied in the video.

Pupil’s Activities – Analyze the rules of Judo as apply in the video.

6. Teacher uses pupil’s responses to lesson a discussion on the rules of Judo.

7. Teacher discuss the basic skills and techniques judo as applied in the video.

Pupil’s Activities – State a and discuss the basic skills and techniques in Judo.

8. Teacher organizes Judo training session, if he a professional or PHE teacher. Note – you can also invite friends, parents and other who have the basic knowledge of Judo.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the training and practice sessions.

9. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

Teacher asks pupils to:

1. state 5 rules of Judo.

2. mention 5 basic skills and techniques in Judo.

3. application of Judo during training.

4. demonstrate 5 skills and techniques involved in Judo.
