By the end of the lesson, most the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain what music is.

2. state the importance of music.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Radio set with cassette or flash containing songs

2. Mobile phone for playing music

3. Mp3 player

4. Musical instruments

5. Chart Showing songs

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION (MEANING OF MUSIC)

Music is a group of sound that people listen to and enjoy. There are types of sound – pleasant and unpleasant sound. Music is a pleasant sound.

Music can be voices or instruments. People clapped, moved their body and tapped their feet while listening to music.

 

USES OF MUSIC IN OUR SOCIETY 

Music is very important part of our society because

1. It is a universal language for all creatures – communication.

2. It is an important tool for entertainment.

3. It unites people together.

4. It is for pleasure.

5. It helps people to relax.

6. It help people to focus at work, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – REVISION OF LESSON 1

LESSON 3 – WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher gets a small mp3 prayer and earpiece each of the groups or mobile phone.

4. Teacher plays the mp3 player or mobile device for the pupils to listen for 2 to 3 minutes.

5. Teacher asks these questions –

  • What are you listening to?
  • What do you like or enjoy in the music?
  • Why do people listen to music?

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils respond correctly the questions in activity.

6. Teacher uses the above activities and pupil’s responses introduce the lesson and creates other activities that will lead to the concept of music.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson introduction, create and preform other activities such as clapping, beating two more objects to make a sound, etc.

7. Teacher leads a class discussion on the music and uses of music in our society.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils explain the meaning of music, appreciate and analyze the uses of music in our society.

8. Summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the lesson summary by responding correctly to most of the lesson and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
