By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of national identity.

2. list elements of national identity.

3. discuss reasons why Nigerians should be patriotic.

The pupils can identify and describe some of the Nigerian national identity.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF NATIONAL IDENTITY 

National identity is sense of accepting and belonging to a nation by identifying with its goals and aspirations.

It is also a sense of working as individual or group to achieve the national goals.

ELEMENTS OF NATIONAL IDENTITY 

1. National anthem

2. National pledge

3. National currency

4. National passport

5. Payment of taxes

6. Work for the success of the nation.

7. Respecting national symbols, etc.

LESSON 2 – REVISION AND WEEK LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Asks pupils sing National Anthem and Pledge.

Pupil’s Activities – Sing National Anthem and Pledge.

3. Displays different denomination national currency.

4. Uses National Anthem and Pledge and currency to introduce the lesson.

5. Uses national anthem and currency to lead pupils to explain the meaning of national identity.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of national identity.

6. Guides pupils to list the elements of national identity.

Pupil’s Activities – Mention elements of national identity.

7. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
