PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of family.

2. identify types of family.

3. identify each member of their family as either nuclear and extended family.

4. demonstrate how to show respect different members of the family.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing father, mother and their children and other members of the family.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

DIFFERENT BETWEEN TYPES OF FAMILY

1. Nuclear family is made up of father, mother and their children while extended family is made up of father, mother and their children with other members of the family such as uncles, aunts, nieces, siblings, grandparents and children and great grandparents and children, etc.

2. Nuclear family has a small member than extended family.

 

3. Extended family is an extension of nuclear family.

 

MEMBERS OF NUCLEAR AND EXTENDED FAMILY 

1. NUCLEAR FAMILY 

  • Father
  • Mother
  • Their bother(s) and sister(s)

 

2. EXTENDED FAMILY 

Extended family is made of people who are related to one another by blood.

  • Uncle – The brother of one’s mother or father.
  • Aunt – The sister of one’s mother or father.
  • Nephew – The son of one’s brother or sister.
  • Nieces – The son of one’s brother or sister.

 

  • Grandparents – The father of one’s father/The mother of one’s father/The father of one’s mother/The mother of one’s mother.
  • Father in law – Father of one’s husband or wife.
  • Mother in law – Mother of one’s husband or wife.

 

LESSON 2 – PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION OF HOW TO SHOW RESPECT TO DIFFERENT TYPES OF FAMILY 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Organizes a short drama on how to show respect to each member of the family.

Play Characters –

1. Father

2. Mother

3. Children

4. Other members of the family.

Guides the pupils to used appropriate words in greetings by demonstration.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Uses questioning method to identify various ways family members respect each other.

 

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the keywords – father, mother and their children as nuclear family and uncle(s), aunt(s), etc. as extended family.

3. Lets pupils differentiate between types of family – nuclear and extended family.

Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between types of family – nuclear and extended family.

4. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – A short drama.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
