PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the students should have attained the following objectives –

1. state the origin of drama.

2. identify the type of drama they have watched on stage or on Video.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of textbook, notebooks, pictorials or illustrations of ritual/festival, storyteller, Ancient man hunting game.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

ORIGIN OF DRAMA

Drama is said to have originated from three sources: Mimesis, Ritual and Storytelling.

Dramatic elements of Festivals, Storytelling: Dialogue, Action, Audience, Stage, etc.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the students some questions; then, the teacher –

2. Lists and explains the origin of drama.

Student’s Activities – Listen and copy notes.

3. Encourages pupils to narrate some form of drama they have experienced in their immediate environment.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Student’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.

 

LESSON EVALUATION 

Ask students to:

1. give three sources where drama originated from;

2. write an essay about a festival or story telling session they have watched on television, bringing out the dramatic elements.
