The pupils can state the importance of honesty in their communities.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

A SHORT STORY 

Once upon a time, there a king looking for a successor to marry his only daughter because he has no male child.

He calls all the able and interested men to his palace for a test. They all passed and the king became confused and he does not know what to do.

At last, he had an idea and calls all the men again to the palace for a final test. He gave each a corn seed to plant and bring them to the palace after two weeks.

After two weeks, all the men brought growing plants but one man is hopeless because his seed does not grow.

They asked, what happens to your plant? He said, your highness… I don’t know why my seed doesn’t grow. Then, the king said, don’t worry my son, I know why your seed doesn’t know grow.

Everyone here has lied to me except you. All the seeds cannot grow because they are cooked and dried before given out. So, they will not grow.

The man married the king’s daughter while others were arrested and locked in the prison.

QUESTIONS

LESSON 2 – MEANING OF HONESTY 

Honesty is the act of being truthful to one another in all things.

IMPORTANCE OF HONESTY (TELLING THE TRUTH) 

The importance of honesty are as follows:

1. Honesty builds faith and confidence.

2. Honesty enables you to earn people trust and respect.

3. Honesty enables people to be free with one another.

4. Honesty gives you control over other people.

5. Honesty reliefs one’s stress.

MEANING OF SELF RELIANCE 

Self reliance is the ability of doing things by yourself without the help of other people.

IMPORTANCE OF SELF RELIANCE

The importance of self reliance are as follows:

1. It builds self resilience.

2. It boosts confidence.

3. It helps to be more self aware.

4. It enables you to appreciate others.

5. It increases self productivity.

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT (TEST) 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in group or pairs depending on the size of the class or available instructional materials.

3. Teacher tells a story on honestly.

4. Teacher asks pupils questions based on the story.

Pupil’s Activities – State the moral lesson of the story.

5. Teacher uses the story and pupil’s responses to questions to introduce the lesson and leads a discussion on other ways civic education can be important – honesty and self reliance.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion.

6. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning and importance of honesty and self reliance.

7. Teacher explains how civic education can be important through honesty and self reliance.

Pupil’s Activities – The learners analyze the importance of honesty and self reliance in their communities.

8. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board by using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
