PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. identify adjectives

2. state the types of adjectives.

3. use adjectives in making sentences.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can identify noun and pronoun in any given sentences.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Course book, Real objects, Pictures

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION – MEANING OF ADJECTIVES 

Adjectives are words that describe or modify nouns and pronouns in a sentence.

 

TYPES OF ADJECTIVES

1. Demonstrative/Qualitative Adjectives

2. Possessive Adjectives

3. Indefinite Adjectives

4. Articles

 

 

DEMONSTRATIVE/QUALITATIVE ADJECTIVES 

Descriptive adjectives are words which describe or modify nouns and pronouns.

These adjectives provide information and attribute to the nouns and pronouns they modify or describe.

 

Examples:

  • I have a fast car.
  • I am hungry.
  • The black cat is crying.
  • I saw a flying bird.

 

Underline descriptive adjectives in the following sentences:

1. Michael is a nice person.

2. He is a player.

 

3. I bought a genuine product.

4. He has a beautiful sister.

5. She is a clever boy.

6. I want to buy a new book.

7. She loves white jars.

 

 

POSSESSIVE ADJECTIVES 

Possessive adjectives are adjectives that indicate possession or ownership.

It tells the belongingness of something to someone or something. The possessive adjectives are – my, his, her, our, their, your.

 

Examples:

  • My car is parked outside.
  • His cat is cute.
  • Our job is done.
  • His books are interesting.

 

 

INDEFINITE ADJECTIVES 

Indefinite adjectives are adjectives provide indefinite or unspecific information about the noun.

The common indefinite adjectives are few, many, much, most, all, any, each, every, either, nobody, several, some, etc.

 

Examples:

  • I gave some money to her.

 

  • I want a few moments alone.
  • All entries are closed.
  • Each pupil will have to submit homework today.

 

 

INTERROGATIVE ADJECTIVES 

Interrogative adjectives are adjectives that asks a question. They must be followed by a noun or a pronoun.

The interrogative adjectives are which, what, whose.

If a noun does not follow right after them, they will not be considered as adjectives. ‘Whose’ also belongs to the possessive adjective type.

 

Examples:

  • Which textbook do you use?
  • What game do you want to play?
  • Whose ball is this?

 

Underline interrogative adjectives in the following sentences:

1. Whose book was that?

2. Which pen do you like more?

3. What books are you buying today?

4. Whose cloth did you wear?

5. Whose book did you use when you are writing?

 

ARTICLES 

Articles are also adjectives.

They modify the nouns or determine the specification of nouns.

‘A’ and ‘an’ are used for an unspecific noun, and ‘the’ is used for specific noun.

 

Examples:

 

  • A cat is always afraid of water. (cat – not specific)
  • The cat is afraid of me. (cat – specific)
  • An electronic product should always be handled with care.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the meaning of adjectives with appropriate examples.

3. Leads a lesson on different types of adjectives with appropriate examples.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion.

4. Guides pupils to identify adjective in a sentence.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify adjective in a sentence.

5. Guides pupils to use adjectives correctly in sentences.

Pupil’s Activities – Use adjectives in making sentences.

6. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupils Activities – Participate actively in the lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – adverbs.

 

LESSON EVALUATION/ASSIGNMENT

Ask pupil to:

 

1. identify adjectives in statements/sentences and

2. construct five sentences using adjectives.
