CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

Agriculture is the planting of crops and raising of livestock.

It is also an industry where so goods and services are produce.

There are many people in agriculture industry. Some are farmers, fishermen, animal husbandry, teachers, manufacturers, traders, etc.

The work in agriculture can not be done by one person. There is need for different labour to compliment one another.

Labour in agriculture is the people that worked in a farm.

 

 

MEANING OF DIVISION OF LABOUR 

Division of Labour is when different people do different activities under the same unit of job.

In agriculture for instance, sometimes the people that cultivate the land are not the one that plant or harvest the crops.

 

 

MEANING OF AGRICULTURAL INDUSTRY 

Agricultural industry is an industry where crops and animals are produced for processing and consumption of man. 

The crops can be classified into food and cash crops. Likewise, the animals into domestic and wild animals.

Food and cash crops served different purposes. Food crops meant for immediate consumption while cash crops are economical crops that are exchanged for cash.

Domestic animals are adapted and live alongside with humans while wild animals also known as wildlife. Wild animals are undomesticated animals. Some of them that serve as food and drugs.

CROP PRODUCTION 

This is the production of food and cash crops.

The people under this type of agriculture are called crop farmers.

 

 

ANIMAL PRODUCTION 

Animal Production is the keeping, feeding, breeding, housing and marketing of animals for profit.

It is also involves hunting of animals in the wild.

The people in animal production is called animal husbandry. People that hunt animals in the wild is called hunter.

 

 

FISHERY

Fishery is the raising or harvesting fish and other aquatic life private or commercial purposes.

People in the fishery industry is known as fishermen.

 

 

FORESTRY

Forestry is the practice of growing, preserving and managing economic trees.

People in forestry industry is called forester.

 

MANUFACTURING

Manufacturing is the practice of making agricultural products from the crops, animals, forests, etc.

 

 

TRADING 

Trading is the practice of buying and selling agricultural products.

People in this industry is called trader.

 

 

TEACHING 

Teaching is the practice of teaching the younger ones to become professional in agricultural industry.

The people in the industry are called teacher or lecturer.

 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays chart showing division of labour on the farm.

3. Allows the pupils to examine and analyze the activities on the chart.

4. Participates actively in the pupils activities in order to support their analysis.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify each job done by different people on the same farm.

5. Uses the above activities to introduce the lesson and discuss the meaning of division of labour in agricultural industrial.

  • Allows the pupils to relate the concept of division of labour in agriculture to other businesses in their locality. For example – the fashion designer, hairdresser, carpenter, etc.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction and define the concept of division of labour in agricultural industry.

6. Displays chart showing different types of agriculture or jobs in agric industry.

7. Allows the pupils to figure out different job opportunities in agriculture.

8. Uses the chart to guide the pupils to identify different job opportunities in agriculture.

Pupil’s Activities – State each of the job opportunities in agriculture.

9. Asks the pupils to find out why division of labour is necessary in agric industry.

10. Summarizes each lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
