THEME – FUNDAMENTALS OF SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION
TOPIC – HISTORY OF NIGERIAN SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION
By the end of the lesson, the students should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to explain the development of social studies Education in Nigeria.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Students Textbooks
2. Social Studies materials
3. Resource person
4. Video clips, etc.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
HISTORY OF NIGERIAN SOCIAL STUDIES EDUCATION
First conceived in the united states and later spread to Europe.
After the world wars it was identified as a course that is relevant to the understanding of man and his problems.
Conferences were held to spread it in Africa, i.e. Mombasa conference in Kenya.
The adoption of Social Studies as a subject in Africa was to make education more relevant to the needs of the Society.
Back home in Nigeria, it was introduced into the Aiyetoro Comprehensive High School in 1964. The Aiyetoro comprehensive High school pilot study and project with the assistance of Ford Foundation of America.
Social Studies was introduced into Nigeria like other countries in response to the societal needs and aspirations.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the students some questions;
2. Leads students to discuss the history of Nigerian Social Studies Education.
Student’s Activities – Participate in discussion of history of Nigeria Social Studies Education.
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
Students to explain history of Nigerian social studies education.
