PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the meaning of recreation.

2. state the components of recreation.

3. differentiate between indoor and outdoor recreations with appropriate examples.

3. classify different recreational activities as indoor and outdoor activities.

4. mention the importance of recreation.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can give examples of sporting activities.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Parks

2. Play ground

3. Swimming pool

4. Hills/mountains

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pair for compete with one another in,

  • Indoor activities such as playing card, ludo or dancing competitions. 15 minutes
  • Outdoor activities such as tug of war, long or high jump. 15 minutes

 

LESSON 2 – MEANING AND IMPORTANCE OF RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Recreation is the after work sporting activities or free time activity that for pressure, fitness enhancement or enjoyment.

People choose the activities that good for their health, refresh their body and mind, making their leisure time more interesting a e enjoyable.

 

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES 

The following are examples of recreation activities,

  • Playing music and dancing
  • Watching television or video
  • Jogging
  • Horse riding
  • Cycling
  • Drawing and painting
  • Reading and writing for pressure
  • Fishing
  • Hurtling wild animals
  • Playing cards, ludo, etc.
  • Singing

 

IMPORTANCE OF RECREATION

The importance of recreation are as follows:

1. It unites family.

2. It reduces stress.

3. It improves life quality.

4. It promotes healthy quality.

5. It creates room for friendship.

6. It enhances friendship skills.

7. It builds self esteem.

8. It reduces boredom.

9. It creates room for enjoyment.

10. It protects the environment.

11. It promotes cultural diversity.

12. It increases tourism.

13. It creates space to feel and enjoy nature.

14. It creates place for social interaction.

 

 

LESSON 3 – COMPONENTS OF RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

There are two (2) components of recreational activities,

1. Indoor reactions

2. Outdoor recreational

 

INDOOR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES 

Indoor recreational activities are physical activities that are carried out inside the house, hall, classroom or any place under the roof. 

Examples of indoor activities are as follows:

  • Playing music
  • Drawing and painting
  • Sewing
  •  Watching television
  • Playing of indoor games such as cards, Ludo, Scrabble and Chess
  • Reading or writing for pleasure, dancing
  • Singing
  • Clubbing

 

OUTDOOR OF RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES 

Outdoor recreational activities are physical activities that take place in a natural setting.

Examples of outdoor activities are as follows:

  • Walking
  • Jogging
  • Playing outdoor games
  • Swimming
  • Cycling
  • Fishing
  • Camping
  • Picnicking
  • Gardening
  • Canoeing
  • Horse riding
  • Hiking
  • River rafting
  • Mountaineering

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs dispensing on the size of the class.

3. Teacher asks pupils to choose one or two representatives to participate in indoor and outdoor activities.

Pupil’s Activities – Choose someone who can represent their groups or pair in the contests.

4. Teacher organizes,

  • Indoor activities such as playing card, ludo or dancing competitions. 15 minutes
  • Outdoor activities such as tug of war, long or high jump. 15 minutes

5. Teacher asks pupils as a group or pair to different between the two activities.

Pupil’s Activities – State the reasons while activities are performed with a closed while other are outside.

6. Teacher asks pupils to state when people mostly played these games – at work, in the church or mosque.

Pupils Activities – Expected respond, Mostly after work, during the holiday or any free time.

7. Teacher listens to the pupils and uses their activities and responses to introduction the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson.

8. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning and importance of recreational activities.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion.

9. Teacher asks pupils to give examples of recreational activities.

Pupil’s Activities – Give examples of recreational activities.

10. Teacher uses the indoor and outdoor activities to introduce and leads a discussion on the components of recreational activities.

Pupil’s Activities – Differentiate between indoor and outdoor activities.

10. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate activity in the lesson summary by responding to the questions correctly and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – outside activities.
