By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. identify the different types of ceremonies.
2. give example of each type of ceremonies.
3. mention important values derived from some of the ceremonies.
4. identify materials associated with ceremonies.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
Pictures of Ceremonial events, Ceremonial food types, Clothing and costumes, Picture of animals, books, video films, etc.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s Activities – Asks the pupils, what is last party they attended?
Pupil’s Activities – Birthday, Naming, Marriage, Burial, etc.
Teacher’s Activities – The party I went last was………. Birthday, Naming, Marriage, Burial, etc. are known as ceremonies.
Teacher’s remarks – When people come together to celebrate or rejoice with one another, it is known as ceremony.
MEANING OF CEREMONY
A ceremony is the gathering of people to celebrate an event. For example – birthday, naming, marriage, etc.
During this period, there are a lot of food and drinks to eat and drink, listen and dance to music during a ceremony.
TYPES OF CEREMONIES
1. Traditional ceremonies
2. Religious ceremonies
3. Carnivals ceremonies
4. National ceremonies
EXAMPLES OF CEREMONIES
1. Traditional – Naming, Marriage, Fishing, Durbar, Masquerade, etc.
2. Religious – Christmas, Salah, etc.
3. National – National Arts and Culture Festival
4. Carnivals – Lagos, Abuja, Calabar, etc.
IMPORTANT VALUES DERIVED FROM CEREMONIES
1. Ceremonies bring people together.
2. Ceremonies promote the people’s culture.
3. Ceremonies strengthen relationships.
4. Ceremonies educate and enlighten the youth about their culture.
5. Ceremonies encourage love and sharing among one another.
MATERIALS ASSOCIATED WITH CEREMONIES
1. Animals – Chickens, Rams, Goats, Cows, etc.
2. Food – Rice, Yam, Semo, etc.
3. Clothing – Lace, Ankara, etc.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Leads pupils to explain the meaning of ceremony.

3. Explains the different types of ceremonies.

4. Leads pupils to mention the examples of ceremonies.
