PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to –

3. state the functions of road traffic signs.

4. interpret the road traffic signs.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify some of the road markings such as zebra marking.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of showing raod markings.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

Road markings are paints and others materials applied on the road surface for the purpose of guiding, warning and controlling traffics.

The markings are inform of lines, patterns or words. Road markings can be used other own or in combination with road signs.

Some of the road markings direct the road users to turn right, turn left or go straight. Also, some markings indicate number of lanes such as broken lines while unbroken lines indicate to and flow.

 

ROAD MARKING COLOURS 

Most of the raod colours are black except for the contrete roads. White and yellow colours.

 

ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNS 

Road signs are used to guide and control traffic and to promote safety.

They are signs designed along the road, across or above to give instructions to the road users. Road signs are different from raod markings. Road markings are mainly on the surface of the roads.

Road signs are important safety precaution on the roads. It designed for both drivers, passengers and other road users. It is also known as traffic signs.

 

LESSON TWO – ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNS

There are many road signs. Here are some of them,

1. Traffic lights

 

2. Zebra crossing

 

3. No packing

 

4. No entry

 

5. U turn

6. No U – turn

 

6. Men at work, etc.

 

USES/FUNCTIONS OF ROAD TRAFFIC SIGNS 

1. Road markings are used for directions.

2. Road markings are used for reducing congestion.

3. Road markings are used for promoting road safety.

4. Road markings are used for ensuring smooth traffic flow.

5. Road markings are used for communicating messages between different road users.

 

LESSON THREE – DRAWING AND PAINTING ROAD MARKINGS

Teacher guides pupils as groups to draw and demonstrate road traffic signs.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.

3a. With the help of other staff, teacher takes the pupils out to the nearest road to identify, observe and describe the makings on the road and traffic signs, if he/she have the permission.

3b. If he/she has no permission, teacher displays chart showing road markings and traffic signs and lets the pupils as groups to identify and describe.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify, observe and describe the Makings on the road.

4. Teacher uses the road trip (or chart) and the pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson – Road Markings and Road Traffic Traffic Signs.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction.

5. Teacher uses appropriate chart to lead a class discussion on road markings and their colours.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion on road markings and their colours.

6. Teacher uses appropriate chart to help the pupils to identify traffic signs and their meaning.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify traffic signs and their meaning.

7. Teacher asks the pupils to draw and paint road markings and traffic signs.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils draw and paint road markings and traffic signs.

8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
