TOPIC: DIFFERENT BETWEEN WAGES AND SALARIES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to:
1. state the meaning of wages and salaries.
2. differentiate between wages and salaries.
3. reasons for different in wages.
The pupils are required to already have learned money in their previous classes.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart of professions.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION – MEANING OF WAGES AND SALARIES
Wages and salaries are the amount of money paid to workers after work done.
The main difference between wages and salaries is that wages are not fixed while salaries are fixed.
Wages are paid according to number of hours, days or weeks while salaries are paid at the end of every month.
WHAT IS A WAGE?
A wage is the amount money paid to workers on a daily or weekly basis.
WHAT IS A SALARY
A salary is the amount money paid to workers at the end of every month.
MEANING OF ALLOWANCE?
Allowance is the additional income workers get their to wages and salaries.
TYPES OF ALLOWANCE
1. Transportation allowance
2. Medical allowance
3. Feeding allowance
4. Housing allowance,
5. Meal allowance, etc.
REASONS FOR DIFFERENT IN SALARIES
1.nQualification – OND, NCE, HND, B.Sc/B.Ed, M.Sc/M.Ed, etc.
2. Hours of work – doctors, banks, presenters, etc.
3. Risk of work – pilots, drivers, soldiers, doctors and nurses, etc.
4. Reward for talent – musicians, comedians, designers, professionals.
5. Role of Trade unions – NUT, BAR, NUJ, etc.
6. Level of productivity.
7. Relationship between employer and employees.
8. Sex consideration – male and female.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Explains and guides the pupils in discussing the concept of wages and salaries;
Pupil’s Activities – Explain the relationship and different between wages and salaries.
3. Leads pupils in discussing the reasons for different salaries;
Pupil’s Activities – State the reasons for different in salaries.
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
