PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. explain permanent stitches.

2. demonstrate permanent stitches.

3. demonstrate the process of making basic stitches.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Charts showing stages of making stitches

Pieces of fabric for making stitches

Sewing tools – needle, pins, tapes…

An album showing stages of making temporary, permanent and decorative stitches

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION 

MEANING OF PERMANENT STITCHES 

Permanent stitches are used joined two or more pieces of materials together permanently.

These stitches are made permanent on the fabric and need not be removed later like Temporary stitches.

 

 

EXAMPLES OF PERMANENT STITCHES 

1. Running stitches

2. Back stitches

3. Hemming stitches

4. Decorative stitches

 

PROCESS OF MAKING BASIC STITCHES 

1. Tailor tacking

This is an accurate marking method made on fabric that is easily removed.

 

2. Even tacking

This is making equal and spaces between stitches.

 

3. Back Stitches

This is a long hand stitches that can be used in place of straight machine stitch.

How to Make Back Stitches

  • Fasten on the thread.
  • Take one long running stitch.
  • Take a stitch back, then bring the needle at again a little way along the seem line.
  • Repeat the desired length

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the meaning of permanent stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of permanent stitches.

3. Demonstrates the process of permanent stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Practice the making of permanent stitches.

4. Demonstrates the process of basic stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Practice the making of basic stitches.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
