By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives – state the basic requirements for staging a play.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing all the requirements for staging a play.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

A play production is the process of making a play on the stage.

 

REQUIREMENTS FOR STAGING A PLAY PRODUCTION PROCESS

The following people and materials are essential in the performance of a play –

1. PRODUCER 

A play producer is the one who finance the drama on stage.

 

2. PLAY SCRIPT 

A play or drama script is a piece of a written characters to be performed for the stage.

 

3. DIRECTOR 

A play director is someone who supervises and directs the action in the production of a show.

 

4. CAST 

A cast is the group of actors who made up of a drama or stage play.

 

LESSON 2 – CONTINUATION

5. MAKE-UP 

A make up is the one who create the physical appearance of the actors to match the reality they present.

 

6. STAGE 

Stage is the space set aside for a show or a drama.

 

7. AUDIENCE 

An audience is a group of people who watch a drama or a show.

 

8. CREW (STAGE MANAGER, TECHNICAL DIRECTOR, etc.)

 

Crew is a group of people who work for a better stage production.

9. COSTUME 

Costume is the style of cloth wear on the stage.

 

10. PROPS 

Props are movable objects used on the stage. It is different from costumes, equipment, etc.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays chart showing all the requirements for staging a play.

3. Lets pupils examine the contents of the chart.

4. Use the chart to explain each requirement of a play production.

Pupil’s Activities –

  • Listens to teacher’s explanation.
  • Identify requirements of a play production.

5. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
