PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

demonstrate the uses of different types of stitches.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Charts showing stages of making stitches

Pieces of fabric for making stitches

Sewing tools – needle, pins, tapes…

An album showing stages of making temporary, permanent and decorative stitches

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

A stitch is the joining of two pieces of material with a line of stitches. That’s, movement of thread and needle in and out of the materials.

There are two (2) types of stitches – temporary and permanent stitches.

USES OF STITCHES 

1. It is used for joining two or more pieces of materials together.

2. It is used for mending clothes.

3. It is used for embroidery, making design and decoration.

USES OF TEMPORARY STITCHES 

Temporary stitches hold pieces of fabrics together temporarily. They are removed as soon as they have served their purposes.

It is used::

1. To hold side seam.

2. To make gathers on fabrics.

3. To hold materials in position temporarily.

 

USES OF PERMANENT STITCHES

Permanent stitches are used joined two or more pieces of materials together permanently.

Permanent Stitches are used:

1. As decorative stitches.

2. To sew fabric permanently.

3. To hold down garment hem.

 

LESSON TWO – REVISION AND WEEK 4 LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or produce by the pupils. 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Identify the uses of different types of stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrates the uses of temporary and permanent stitches.

3. Use different types of stitches in producing food cover, pillow slips/cases, head band.

Pupil’s Activities – Produce articles using different stitches.

CONCLUSION

• To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
