PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

1. describe the steps in making decorative stitches – herring Borne and stem stitches

2. produce articles using satin and French Knot stitches.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

Charts showing stages of making stitches

Pieces of fabric for making stitches

Sewing tools – needle, pins, tapes…

An album showing stages of making temporary, permanent and decorative stitches

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – HERRING BROWN AND STEM DECORATIVE STITCHES 

 

 

PRACTICAL WORK ON BROWN PAPER – HERRING BORNE 

Steps –

1. Make a running stitch on a single material just below raw edge and a little way to the right.

2. Bring the needle out beneath the end of back a stitch mode double fabric.

3. Take the next running stitch in double materials a little to the right.

4. Bring out above the end of the first running stitch.

5. Continue working on stitches this way.

 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate and Produce articles using Herring Borne decorative stitches. 

 

6. Display of simple Herring Borne decorative stitches on brown paper.

 

LESSON TWO

 

PRACTICAL WORK ON BROWN PAPER – STEM STITCHES 

Stem stitches are often used as an outline stitches.

Steps –

1. Bring the needle out on the line to be stitched.

2. Put the needle in a short distance along the line and bring it out half way down.

3. Keep the thread on the right hand side of the line.

4. Work from left to right, taking small regular stitch along the line of the design.

5. Let the thread come out on the left side of the previous stitch.

 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Demonstrate and Produce articles using Stem decorative stitches. 

 

6. Display of simple Stem decorative stitches on brown paper.

 

 

 

WEEK 7 LESSON ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or produce by the pupils. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Demonstrates the process of making Herring Borne and Stem decorative stitches.

Pupil’s Activities – Practice the making of Herring Borne and Stem decorative stitches.

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Produce articles using Herring Borne and Stem decorative stitches.
