LEARNING OUTCOME – 9

  1. distinguish between curves and straight lines.
  2. identify the presence of straight lines and curves in real life situations.
  3. draw squares, rectangles, triangles and circles.

RATIONALE

A line can be straight or curved. The word line usually means a straight line. A straight line is the shortest distance between two points. A straight line is the line traced by a point moving in a direction that does not change. A curved line is sometimes called a curve. The edge of a circle is not straight and is an example of a curve.

When two or more lines (straight or curved) are closed a shape (letters or numbers) is formed. Even a line can form a letter or number. For the purpose of this lesson, the pupils will understand and appreciate the importance of lines in daily activities.

LEARNING MATERIALS 

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Plane shapes, Leaves, Pictures, Squares, Rectangles, Triangles, Rulers, Pencil, Broomsticks, Straight edges, Square cornered shapes, Circular tins, Coins etc.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

Two and three dimensional shapes are made of different lines (straight and curved lines). The pupils can identify straight (curve) lines in plane and solid shapes.
