Some of the pupils can identify decay or rotten foods as poisonous food.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Food poisoning is another source of dangers and insecurity that’s common in our community.

 

MEANING OF POISONING 

Food poisoning is an illness caused by contaminated food or water.

The most common symptoms of food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

 

 

TYPES OF FOOD POISONING

1. Unwashed hands before handling or eating food.

2. Unwashed raw fruits

3. Undercooked foods

4. Dirty plate

5. Expired food seasoning

6. Dirty environment

 

 

HOW TO PREVENT FOOD POISONING 

Food poisoning can be prevented by the following steps –

 

1. Clean

Wash your hands and all necessary cooking utensils before eating or cooking.

 

2. Separate

Separate all raw foods such as meat, fish, etc. from ready to eat foods.

 

3. Cook

Cook your foods at normal temperature to kill all the harmful bacteria.

 

4. Chill

Refrigerate all foods that need to be refrigerated.

 

5. Regular exercise

 

 

LESSON 2 – SYMPTOMS OF FOOD POISONING 

Food poisoning symptoms may include –

 

1. Cramping – pain in the body tissue or muscle.

2. Vomiting

3. Diarrhea – watery stooling.

4. Nausea – urge to vomit.

5. Loss of appetite

6. Fever

7. Weakness

8. Headache

 

 

HOW ENUMERATE THE EFFECTS OF FOOD POISONING 

1. See the doctor, if it is severe.

2. Drink enough water

3. Take prescribed medicines

4. Rest

5. Eat as normally as possible

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class and available instructional materials.

3. Teacher displays sample of good fruit, food, clean water, rotten fruit, rotten fruit, spoil food, and dirty water.

4. Teacher guides pupils examine the samples, compare and discuss the health issues of eating rotten fruit, spoil food and drinking unclean water.

Pupil’s Activities – Leaders state the health implications of eating rotten fruit, spoil food and drinking unclean water.

5. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to the introduce the lesson.

Pupil’s Activities – Learners pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of food poisoning.

6. Teacher uses the samples to lead a discussion on the meaning and types of food poisoning.

Pupil’s Activities – Learners participate actively in the class discussion on meaning and types of food positioning.
