CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Leads pupils to sing the song,

Baa Baa Black Sheep 

Baa, baa, black sheep,

Have you any wool?

Yes, sir, yes, sir,

Three bags full;

One for the master,

And one for the dame,

And one for the little boy

 

 

MUSICAL VALUES AND THEIR NOTES 

Music notes are symbols in the staff indicating the length of music notes.

The duration of the sound depends on the note’s length (or values), which is specified by its shape, stem, or flag(s); and to every music note, there is an equivalent rest sign.

 

SEMIBREVE (WHOLE NOTE) 

 

 

Value of Semibreve – It worths the value of 4 beats.

 

MINIM (HALF KEY) 

 

 

Value of MINIM – It worths half of the value of a semibreve, i.e. 2 beats.

 

CROTCHET (QUARTER NOTE) 

 

Value of CROCHET – It worths half of the value of a minim, i.e. 1 beat.

 

DRAW THE MUSICAL NOTES

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Guides pupils to draw the musical notes.

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Leads pupils to sing baa baa black sheep.

Pupil’s Activities – Sing along with the teacher.

3. Guides pupils to identify the musical values and their values.

Pupil’s Activities – Identify the musical values and their values.

4. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Draw each of the musical notes.

5. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Clap the rhythmic pattern of the music note.
