ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils already know that verbs are action words. In this lesson, they will learn how adverbs give more information about how actions are performed.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

An adverb is a word that describes a verb. It tells us how, when, or where an action happens. Most adverbs of manner answer the question “How?”

Examples

  • Verb – Adverb
  • run – quickly
  • sing – beautifully
  • write – neatly
  • speak – clearly
  • work – hard

SENTENCES MAKING

  • The boy runs quickly.
  • Mary sings beautifully.
  • The pupils write neatly.
  • The teacher speaks clearly.
  • We worked hard.

The words quickly, beautifully, neatly, clearly, and hard are adverbs because they describe how the actions are performed. Note: The teacher should encourage pupils to create their own sentences using adverbs and provide corrections where necessary.
