PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

  1. Distinguish between very and so on the one hand and very and quite on the other hand.
  2. Use too correctly – too heavy.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

INTENSIFIERS

Intensifiers are adverbs or adverbial phrases that strengthen the meaning of other expressions and show emphasis. Words that we commonly use as intensifiers include very, rather, fairly, too, so, quite, etc.

  1. She was so upset.
  2. She has a very strict teacher.
  3. It’s a really interesting story.
  4. Don’t work too hard.
  5. The show was quite good.
  6. It’s a fairly common problem.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Emphasizes on correctness and correct usage.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Make sentences with each of the words to bring out their meanings.
  4. Uses the words ‘very’ and ‘so’, to bring out their meanings – the load is very heavy. It is so heavy that I can’t lift it. It is too….
  5. Pupil’s Activities – Use the words in dramatic context to drive home their meanings.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
