TOPIC: TRANSPORTATION
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:
1. explain what we mean by land transportation.
2. state the means of land transportation.
3. list types of land transportation.
4. state the problems of land transportation in Nigeria.
5. mention ways of solving the problems of land transportation.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils are required to already know different means of moving from one place to another.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart of car, bus, bicycle, motorcycle, canoe, ship, aeroplane, helicopter, train, horse, donkey, etc.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION – TRANSPORTATION
Transportation is the movement of people and goods from one place to another by land, water or air.
TYPES OF TRANSPORTATION
1. Land transportation
2. Water transportation
3. Air transportation
LAND TRANSPORTATION
Land transportation is the movement of people and goods from one place to another by land.
FORMS OF LAND TRANSPORTATION
1. Roads by motor, motorcycle bicycle, horse, etc.
2. Railways by train.
3. Trekking by foot.
ADVANTAGES OF LAND TRANSPORTATION
Land transport faces many problems in Nigeria. Some of them are:
1. Transport fares are usually high.
2. The trains are very dirty.
3. The trains are very slow.
4. The trains are not enough.
WHAT ARE THE PROBLEMS OF LAND TRANSPORTATION?
Land transport faces many problems in Nigeria. Some of them are:
1. Bad roads.
2. Careless driving.
3. Poor land transportation system.
4. Bad road management.
5. Poor of maintenance culture.
6. Poor road network.
7. Poor traffic lights.
8. Disobedience to traffic rules.
9. Overload
10. Congestion of road users especially in Lagos.
11. Too much of illegal collections especially in Lagos.
13. The trains are very dirty.
14. The trains are very slow.
15. The trains are not enough.

WHAT ARE THE SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEMS OF LAND TRANSPORTATION
The following are some of the ways of solving the problems of land transport:
1. Fixed the bad roads.
2. Adequate roads network to solve the problems of one roads.
3. The streets should tarred to supplement the major roads.
4. Offenders of traffic rules should be punish.
5. More traffic lights should be installed to reduce the stress of traffic officials.
6. Government should put a stop to all illegal collections.
7. Government should invest on road and railway transportation.
8. The activities of NURTW should be regulated.
9. Light and fast train should be provided.
10. More railway should be constructed to link cities and states.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Guides the pupils identity different means of transportation and group them according to types of transportation.
3. Pupil’s Activities – Identify different means of transportation and group according to types.
4. Guides the pupils use the activities 2 and 3 above to explain what transportation means.
Pupil’s Activities – State the meaning of transportation.
5. Guides the pupils to define land transportation as movement on land.
Pupil’s Activities – define land transportation.
6. Leads the pupils to identify different forms of land transportation.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify different forms of land transportation with examples.
8. Guides the pupils in discussing the problems of transportation and solutions to the problems.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in discussing problems of transportation and solutions to the problems.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – national water supply.
