CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON INTRODUCTION

A valedictory speech is a formal speech given at the end of a school year, graduation, or farewell ceremony. It is usually delivered by a pupil, student, or representative to say goodbye and reflect on experiences.

MEANING OF VALEDICTORY SPEECH

A valedictory speech is a farewell speech given to thank teachers, parents, and classmates and to share memories and achievements.

FEATURES OF A VALEDICTORY SPEECH

  • It is delivered at a farewell or graduation ceremony.
  • It is usually written and spoken formally.
  • It expresses gratitude and appreciation.
  • It includes memories, achievements, and future wishes.
  • It ends with goodbye and best wishes.

STRUCTURE OF A VALEDICTORY SPEECH

  • Opening Greeting – Address teachers, parents, and fellow pupils.
  • Introduction – State the purpose of the speech.
  • Main Body – Share experiences, achievements, and challenges.
  • Appreciation – Thank teachers, parents, and friends.
  • Conclusion – Say goodbye and give best wishes.

Valedictory Speech of Primary 6 Pupils

Good morning, respected teachers, parents, and my fellow pupils.

Today is a special day as we gather to say goodbye to our primary school. We are happy and sad at the same time. We are happy because we have completed our studies in primary school, but sad because we will miss our teachers and friends.

We thank our teachers for their patience, care, and guidance. We also appreciate our parents for their support and encouragement.

During our time here, we learned many things such as reading, writing, and good behaviour. We also made many friends and happy memories.

As we move to secondary school, we promise to work hard and make our school proud.

Thank you all, and goodbye.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions.

2. The teacher organizes the pupils into groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

Pupils’ Activities: Each pupil belongs to a group.

3. The teacher gives each group printed materials on valedictory speeches for the pupils to read, discuss among themselves, and state the purpose of the speech.

Pupils’ Activities: The groups read, understand, and state the purpose of the speech.

4. The teacher uses the printed materials and the pupils’ responses to introduce the lesson and explains the meaning and features of a valedictory speech.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction, understand, and explain the meaning and features of a valedictory speech.

5. The teacher leads and guides the pupils on how to write a valedictory speech.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils follow the teacher’s guidance on how to write a valedictory speech.

6. The teacher summarizes the lesson on the board and gives appropriate evaluation.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions as instructed.
