PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. list the number of functional rooms in their homes.

2. state the uses of the rooms in their homes.

3. mention the uses of the items found in the rooms in their homes.

4. identify where the different items found in the home are kept.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify and state the uses of Items found in the home.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures and charts showing functional rooms in the home, items found in the home.

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Display a chart showing different parts of a home for pupils to identify and state the uses of different rooms in the home.

Pupil’s Activities – The sitting room, bedroom, dining room, etc.

Teacher’s remark – Each room in the home are known as functional room. They served different purpose. Each room has items that make them functional. Write on the board each room mentioned by the pupils and ask them to the items found the rooms.

 

FUNCTIONAL ROOMS IN THE HOME 

Home a house or apartment where people lives as a family. The following are the rooms in the home.

1. Sitting/Living room

2. Bedrooms – (Master and Visitor’s or Guest’s rooms)

 

 

3. Dining rooms

4. Bathroom

5. Toilets (Master’s and Visitor’s or Guest’s toilets)

6. Kitchen

7. Store

 

LESSON 2 – USES OF ITEMS FOUND IN THE HOME AND WHERE EACH ARE KEPT 

Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Discuss each item found in the functional rooms in the home and its uses and where it is kept.

1. Set of chairs

  • Uses – For sitting and relaxation
  • Position to keep – Sitting room.

 

2. Bed

  • Uses – For sleeping
  • Position to keep – Bedrooms.

 

3. Bucket/basin

  • Uses – For fetching water and washing clothes and plates.
  • Position to keep – Kitchen, toilet and bathrooms.

 

4. Gas cooker/Kerosene stove

  • Uses – For cooking
  • Position to keep – Kitchen.

 

5. Plates, cups and cutleries

  • Uses – For eating and drinking

 

 

  • Position to keep – Kitchen and dining room.

 

6. Table

  • Uses – For eating and writing
  • Position to keep – Kitchen, dining room and sitting room.

 

7. Television, dstv, gotv or startime and radio set

  • Uses – For entertainment and news
  • Position to keep – Sitting room.

 

8. Air conditioning, ceiling or standing fan

  • Uses – For cooling
  • Position to keep – Sitting room and bedrooms.

  • Uses – For cooking and bath
  • Position to keep – Kitchen and bathrooms.

 

10. Freezer and refrigerator

  • Uses – For preservation and cooling
  • Position to keep – Kitchen and dinning room.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays charts or pictures of functional rooms in the home.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Identify charts or pictures of functional rooms in the home.

3. Discuss the uses of each of the functional rooms in the home.

Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the number of functional rooms in the homes.

4. Discuss each item found in the functional rooms in the home and its uses and where it is kept.

Pupil’s Activities – Indicate what the rooms in their houses are used for. Also, mention the uses of the different items/objects found in the home.

5. Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Bring pictures of house.

6. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s  Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
