PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. use possessive pronouns correctly.

2. use the structures in meaningful situations to indicate possession.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can express ownership using my, his, hers, mine, ours, theirs and yours.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Pictures

 

 

2. Real objects sentences – strips showing possessive pronouns.

3. Flash cards

4. Approved course book.

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities – Get an item each from of the pupil and put all the items in a box. Pick an item and ask the pupils, who owns this? Listen to them as they express ownership of a particular or collective item(s) and note them on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – The biro is mine. It is my biro, etc.

Teacher’s Remark – Correct, my, mine, etc. are used to express ownership and they are call possessive pronouns. Discuss in details with the pupils.

 

EXPRESSING OWNERSHIP 

Possessive pronouns are words that take the place of nouns and express ownership.

 

 

For examples – my, mine, your, yours, his, her, hers, our, ours, its, their, theirs.

I – my, mine

you – your, yours

he – his

she – her

it – its

we – our, ours

they – their, theirs

 

USING POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS AS (SINGULAR)

1. Male/female – My

2. Male – His

3. Female – Hers

4. Male/female – Mine

 

MAKING SENTENCES USING POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS AS (SINGULAR)

1. This is my pen.

 

 

2. This is his/her pen.

 

USING POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS AS (PLURALS)

1. Male/female – Ours

2. Male/female – Theirs

3. Male/female – Yours

 

MAKING SENTENCES USING POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS AS (PLURALS)

1. Ours is the blue one in the room.

2. Look at these toys. Mine is the big one.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Makes some sentences using the structure: “This is my book”, etc.

Pupil’s Activities – Repeat the sentences after the teacher.

3. Uses simple drills to provide practicing exercises for pupils.

Pupil’s Activities – Answer questions individually and in pairs.

  • Express possessive words in sentences.

 

 

  • Identify possessive words in given sentences.

4. Guides the pupils’ activities.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
