TOPIC: FURTHER PRACTICE ON READING DIALOGUE – CONVERSATION ON TELEPHONE AS OPPOSED TO LETTERS
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:
1. observe the rule of politeness.
2. communicate quickly and fluently over the telephone the correct mode of address and conversation.
3. use appropriate intonation patterns in telephone conversation.
4. say what you want to say clearly, audibly and without wasting time.
ENTRY BEHAVIOR
The pupils are required to already make and receive calls.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Toy telephones
2. Pre-recorded conversations on cassette tapes if available.
3. Flannel board sentences.
4. Hand outs e.g. bodies of the conversation.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Explains the main parts of telephone set.
3. Explains how to make telephone calls.
Pupil’s Activities – Use telephone in pairs to engage in conversation using the hand outs distributed by the teacher.
4. Demonstrates with a pupil by reading examples of telephone conversations to pupils using the appropriate speech features fluently accurately and intelligibly.
Pupil’s Activities – Use the correct intonation in speaking.
5. Gives pupils printed copies of the conversation and asks them to pair up and hold conversations as if on telephone.
Pupil’s Activities – Write their own telephone conversations out for oral drill.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
